Smallwood took the band to perform in every corner of the globe, from the United States to Japan, even reaching Australia and New Zealand. With his authoritarian nature, Rod pushed the band into extremely demanding tours, such as the 1984-85 World Slavery Tour, during which Harris and his bandmates faced serious physical and mental challenges. However, Rod knew that they had to strike while the iron was hot.

In the following years, many more tours ensued, culminating in 1992 with concerts all the way to South America. But Rod wasn’t satisfied and continued to chase increasingly ambitious goals, carefully managing the band’s finances. In 2016, the Maiden even managed to perform in China, fulfilling one of Harris’ dreams.

Despite the criticisms from some crew members and even the band itself due to his strict and determined attitude, the results speak for themselves: Rod Smallwood is a true pillar of Iron Maiden’s success. He turned a simple neighborhood band into the most famous group in the heavy metal scene. Without diminishing the songwriting skills of Harris and the others, our beloved Maiden would not be where they are now without the mastery and determination of the great Rod Smallwood.
